How about letting me…? The latter shows concern about imposition (e.g. I’m sorry to bother you…) and typically uses a model verb in a question (e.g. 1. Could you…? 2. I know you are busy, but might I ask you if …?).[2] By using the two strategies, the embarrassment caused by “face threatening acts” can be well relieved, and only in this way, the two-side communication can go on pleasantly and smoothly.
Communication is a kind of art whose delicate exterior and abundant interior is far beyond the mere interaction of tongue, ears and face. It is hoped that more people will value this art and perfect it with superior means, thus letting more communicators not only become of the splendid communicating stage the “dancer”, but also the “leader”.
